Teen girl raped in Exeter

Another sexually assaulted

One teenage girl has been raped and another sexually assaulted near Digby and Sowton train station in Exeter.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incidents which took place between 8.45pm and 10pm on Friday.

A 19-year-old man from the city is in custody being questioned on suspicion of raping a 16 year-old on Clyst Halt Avenue and then a 17 year-old on the station platform and then again on a train travelling into Exeter St David’s.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Pebworth said: “Detectives are investigating reports of two very serious incidents which occurred in Exeter.

“Both victims are being supported by specialist officers and at this time, we are not seeking anyone else in relation to these incidents.”

DCI Pebworth added: “We believe that there were lots of people in the area of Digby and Sowton last night and we are urging anyone with information which may assist us to please get in touch.

“A number of scene guards will be in place today as we continue our investigation and there is an increased high visibility presence.”

If you have information that may help, please call police on 101.
