Devon and Cornwall police are to be one of four forces to pilot a new way of dealing with people who have mental health problems.
The scheme will see clinical mental health staff accompanying police in emergency responses, so that they're on hand to give advice and liaise with any other care services that might be needed.
The news comes shortly after a report criticised the current system which sees far too many people with mental health disorders being taken into police custody when they become agitated or suicidal.
