Caravan stopped as police crackdown continues

Owners warned of potential fine for non-essential journeys

Police have warned motorists they face fines for unnecessary journeys, after a car towing a caravan was stopped on the A38 today [Tuesday 24 March].

It came as Brits began a first day under an effective lockdown, with people only allowed to leave their homes for; shopping for basic necessities, one form of exercise a day, any medical need, to give care or to help a vulnerable person, or travelling to and from work if "absolutely necessary".

According to the Alliance Roads Policing Team, the drivers of the towing car "felt today to be the right time to move their caravan from one town to another".

An officer also expressed his shock at the number of people on roads in Devon, despite the new rules meaning most residents should be staying indoors.
