Police issue advice
The Exeter Neighbourhood Police Team say burglaries from unsecure houses are on the rise.
They say burglars are "easily" accessing properties and taking valuable items that are left in sight.
They have now issued this advice:
- Keep your doors locked even when you are home or in the back garden.
- Take keys out of locks as a burglar could reach through a letterbox or cat flap.
- Install lights outside to light pathways at night.
- Close/lock windows and use lights on timer switches when you are away to make your home appear occupied.
