The body of a man has been discovered by kayakers in the Countess Wear area of the River Exe in Exeter.
It was found near the Tally Ho Inn at around one o'clock this afternoon where the man was declared dead at the scene.
Police have confirmed that the fire and ambulance services assisted with recovery, and an investigation and identification is underway.
It's understood that the discovery could be the body of 61-year-old Roger Duggan who went missing from the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital early on Monday morning, although this can't be confirmed.
A three-man volunteer crew from Exmouth RNLI had been called in to carry out a shoreline search for Mr. Duggan, but were stood down after the body was found.
Helmsman Charles Swales said the search was carried out as far as possible:
"When we ran out of water at the bridge at Countess Wear, we came back down with the tide, retracing our steps for a secondary search".
