Benefit cuts lead to more youth homelessness

Welfare reforms and public spending cuts have led to an increase in youth homelessness in Exeter, according to a local organisation working to prevent it.

The YMCA supports and accommodates dozens of young people who might otherwise end up sleeping rough, every year.

It says there's always a high demand for its help, but the combination of benefit cuts and austerity measures have made the problem worse - with many other anti-homelessness services closing down.
