High fees to cover costs
Millions of motorists will have to pay more to cross the Tamar following months of protests and debates.
From Monday 12 May, those travelling over the Tamar Bridge and using the Torpoint Ferry will face a hike of 40p, bringing the cost for cars and vans to £3.
However, pre-paid Tamar Tag holders will continue to pay half at £1.50, and motorcyclists can now pay their £1 fare by card.
This price hike aims to cover the £18 million annual cost of running and maintaining these vital routes for commuters in Plymouth and Cornwall.
Back in March, Local MPs and the Tamar Bridge and Torpoint Ferry Joint Committee reached an important agreement to reduce tolls for residents over visitors.
Over the next ten years, the plan will further benefit regular users by increasing the Tamar Tag discount compared to the standard cash fare.
This move will hopefully make travel more affordable for residents compared to visitors.
