Crisis talks are underway to rescue Axminster Carpets which crashed into administration yesterday.
The East Devon employer of 400 people had been trying to beat the economic downturn by breaking into niche overseas markets, but this has not been successful.
Axminster Carpets also owns businesses that employ 50 staff in other parts of Devon.
