Devon County Council engineers will be testing the lifting span on Wednesday 24 October.
The bridge, which connects Shaldon and Teignmouth, hasn't been opened for commercial reasons for nearly 90 years, but an Act of Parliament means it must remain operational.
The bridge, which is closed until around 9pm, is opened every one to two years to ensure it remains functional.
