It happened in Ilfracombe yesterday (Tuesday)
Police in Ilfracombe had to rescue a man from the sea yesterday (Tuesday 30th July), after he swam off, trying to avoid being arrested for theft.
In a post on Facebook, they said he took "drastic measures" and "unsurprisingly" got into difficulty.
After what officers describe as a "dramatic rescue" he was given medical care and they say offences will be dealt with.
They've thanked members of the public who offered to help.
