Boat incident at Sutton Harbour
A man has died after an incident following the first night of the British Fireworks Championship in Devon.
The event attracts thousands of spectators, many of whom enjoy the display from boats around Plymouth Sound.
Emergency services were alerted around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday to reports of people in the water and in distress in Sutton Harbour.
Coastguard Search and Rescue, together with the police, responded, and by the time emergency services arrived, two people were out of the water thanks to the swift action of the public who were also undertaking CPR on an unconscious man.
However, despite the best efforts by all at the scene, a man in his seventies from the Kingsbridge area died at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed.
One woman was taken to hospital as a precaution and should make a full recovery.
This death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is to be prepared for the coroner.
This incident is to be referred to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
