Suspected World War Two bomb found
About a hundred buildings near the Exeter University main campus have been evacuated following the discovery of a large unexploded bomb, thought to be a remnant of the Second World War.
Police were called to Glenthorne Road, off Cowley Bridge Road at around 9.20 a.m. this morning following reports of a device had been located.
A 100 metre cordon is in place and a number of nearby properties are currently being evacuated. The cordon size may change in due course.
University of Exeter staff assisted with evacuating nearby halls of residence. They're said on Twitter that the bomb was discovered by "builders on private land" next to the Streatham campus, with about 200 students being told to leave immediately.
The Royal Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team - the bomb squad - is also on scene.
Inspector Sean Roper has told the BBC that it's a large device and resolving the situation would take some time. "This will take us until tomorrow [Saturday], without a doubt," he said.
People are advised to avoid the area where possible.
