Five others bailed
A man has appeared in court charged with murder in connection with the disappearance of 32-year-old Lorraine Cox.
Christopher Mayer, aged 22 and of no fixed abode in Exeter, appeared before Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning. The hearing lasted just three minutes, during which Mr Mayer spoke only to confirm his name and age. Remanded in custody, he will appear next at Exeter Crown Court by video link on Tuesday 15 September.
Five other men, aged 43, 22, 30, 33 and 71, have all been released on police bail until Wednesday 7 October.
Ms. Cox was reported missing from Exeter on 31 August. The following week, police cordons and protective tenting appeared around Mary Arches Street in the centre of Exeter.
Ms, Cox's family has been kept informed of these updates and are being supported by police liaison officers. They ask for their privacy at this difficult time.
