Crossing patrols won't be axed, as Tories backtrack and declare earlier decision "wrong"
Devon's school crossing patrols have been saved. Last month, Devon County Council voted to scrap lollipop men and women - to save a quarter of a million pounds they said was needed for other services it has to provide by law. But this afternoon the council's announced a U-turn - saying it's had more people contacting them about the issue than earlier public consultations. Conservative council leader John Hart now says that he thinks the decision to axe the patrols, was wrong. He hasn't said where the savings will come from instead.
