The Devon and Somerset Fire Authority are due to decide today whether to take controversial cost-cutting plans for the fire service through to the next stage.
The proposals have been drawn up in response to a cut in Government funding which leaves the fire service five and a half million pounds worse off over the next two years.
They include some changes to front-line operations, changing six whole-time crews to on-call working.
The fire authority have to decide whether to put the plans out to public consultation.
The local branch of the Fire Brigades Union say they understand that the fire service HAS to make these savings.
But they're warning that using on-call firefighters will increase response times.
