Devon police warning
Police in Devon say they've seen a sharp increase about fake TV licensing emails claiming to offer refunds.
The emails says refunds can't be processed because of "invalid account details." People then link through to a fake website designed to collect personal and bank account details.
It's known as 'phishing'. The TV licensing logo looks realistic - although they us lower case for 'tv' and spell licence incorrectly and miss the 'ed' off 'credited'. Spelling mistakes are often a giveaway in phoney emails. Don't be fooled. TV licence refunds don't get paid this way, if at all.
Police say you should never automatically click on an unexpected email or text.
