Wingers sign deal until January 2024
Exeter City have confirmed the arrival of Caleb Watts and Yanic Wildschut on short term deals until the January transfer window.
Wildschut, a Dutch-born Suriname international, came through the ranks at Dutch side VVV Venlo and links up with Exeter manager Gary Caudwell for a second time, the pair having won the League One title together at Wigan in 2016. The 31-year-old left winger will bring experience to the Grecians squad, having played in the Championship, the Dutch Eredivisie, and the Europa Conference League with Israeli champions Maccabi Haifa.
His Suriname international status makes him a shrewd signing for City, who were one international player short of being able to call off their recent match against Leyton Orient. The absence of Finnish squad members Niskanen and Sinisalo further weakened an already depleted Exeter side who were forced to play four teenagers in a poor home defeat.
Australian U23 international Caleb Watts is a highly-rated youngster who has Premier League experience with Southampton. He has played in League One as recently as last season, having spent the year on loan at Morecambe. He will provide immediate cover for the injured Dion Rankine at right wing-back.
Neither have prolific records in front of goal, but will be given an immediate opportunity to impress, amidst an injury crisis which has seen five regular starters on the sidelines in recent weeks.
In an interview with the club, Gary Caldwell confirmed that no new players would be joining the squad until the January transfer window opens.
