The success of work to encourage cycling in Exeter has been used as a shining example in a report calling on the Government to promote cycle use.
An all-party Parliamentary group published its report this week, recommending that more of the national transport budget should be spent on supporting cycling, and that the planning of new developments should incorporate provision for cyclists.
It mentions that Devon county council brought about an increase in average daily cycle trips in Exeter which saw traffic levels fall by more than five per cent.
The council have welcomed the recognition of their achievement, and say they'll be investing more than 13 million pounds to continue the development of cycle routes in the next few years.
