Exeter is likely to be among the areas of Devon worst affected by the latest series of firefighters' strikes - starting today.
Members of the Fire Brigades Union are walking out from midday until 5pm in protest against changes to their pensions.
They'll be further strikes between 2pm and 2am on Saturday and 10am and 3pm on Sunday.
The fire service's area manager, Steve Widnall, says the action mainly hits urban areas as the rural fire stations are mainly staffed by retained firefighters.
But he's stressing that good contingency plans are in force, with trained volunteers stepping in during the strike periods.
