Devon students get cyber crime lessons

Police roll out workshops

Students across the south west are getting lessons in cybercrime.

Devon and Cornwall Police are offering free 'Cyber Choices' workshops in schools - designed for young people interested in the cyber industry.

The hour-long workshops teach pupils about the Computer Misuse Act, including offences like hacking and spreading viruses, and how to use their computers and phones legally and safely

Cyber and Prevention Team officers are visiting schools across both counties to share their knowledge.

The sessions can be adapted for different age groups and are coordinated by the National Crime Agency. 

Detective Constable, Tamsin May, of the Digital Capabilities Unit, said: 'Whilst young people who are interested in the cyber industry need to be encouraged to develop their skills and curiosity, we must educate them about key topics. We do this so that they can make safe, informed choices when using technology to help prevent them from becoming involved in cybercrime.

This work is all about building positive relationships and sharing knowledge, and we continue to run the sessions across Devon and Cornwall to share this vital information with as many people as we can.'
