Plymouth in for a battering
Devon is bracing for a stormy start to 2025, with Plymouth set to get the brunt of it!
Across the county, powerful gusts are expected and heavy rain expected through Wednesday afternoon.
Here's a breakdown of the wind conditions in each location:
Exeter: Winds will gradually increase throughout Wednesday, with gusts building from 38 mph at 3 am to a peak of 58 mph in the afternoon before subsiding overnight.
Barnstaple: While winds will be relatively calm on New Year's Eve, gusts will pick up on New Year's Day, reaching 63 mph by noon before gradually decreasing.
Plymouth: Plymouth will experience the most severe conditions, with gusts reaching a maximum of 65 mph by 3 pm on Wednesday.
The heavy rain is expected to fall across Devon between noon and 3 pm on Wednesday, clearing by 9 pm. While Thursday morning is forecast to be dry and even sunny, temperatures will plummet.
Daytime temperatures will struggle to reach 2-3°C, falling below freezing overnight and remaining very cold into Friday.
Overall, prepare for strong winds and heavy rain on New Year's Day, followed by a sharp drop in temperatures and a very cold start to the new year.
