An attempt to delay the relocation of East Devon District Council has failed.
A motion to put the sale of its Sidmouth headquarters on hold for six months was defeated by 38 votes to 18 at a full council meeting last night.
The councillors who supported the proposal said the delay was needed so that the whole relocation process could be scrutinised.
The ruling Conservative group say the vote reinforces the council's commitment to selling the Knowle offices and moving to premises in Exmouth and Honiton.
