It now means the funding gap is around £1m
A major beach management scheme in East Devon is a step closer to being fully funded - after it received a grant of £500,000.
The money for the project at Sidmouth and East Beach has come from the South West Regional Flood and Coastal Committee.
Depending on the level of contributions from other potential sources, it now means the funding gap is around £1m.
Councillor Stuart Hughes says they are working on additional sources to find the rest of the money.
He said: “I am delighted that the members of the finance sub group agreed with the case that I made for this additional funding and I was able to show local support for funding for the scheme including the town, district and county councils and local residents of Cliff Road.”
