Lifting chamber needs repairs
A key Teignbridge bridge is closing for a week for repairs.
Shaldon Bridge won't be available to traffic or pedestrians during the half-term holiday from Monday 21 to Friday 25 February.
The work consists of repairs to the part of the bridge where the lifting span meets the fixed section.
Further investigation of a defect recently discovered in the bridge’s lifting chamber is also needed.
During the closure, maintenance teams will take the opportunity to clean the gullies.
Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Management said: “We apologise for the inconvenience, however the work has to be done. Pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge, and we hope to open it to traffic at the end of each working day, but this will depend on the extent of the repairs needed.”
Traffic lights will be in place when the closure isn’t required, and diversion signs will be in place.
