A murder enquiry has been launched after the death of a man in Newton Poppleford early this morning [9 January].
Police were called to a caravan fire in a scrapyard, along with concerns for the welfare of a man inside, at around 2.30am.
When the emergency services arrived, the local man – in his 40s – was pronounced dead. His next of kin have been informed.
A 30-year-old man, of no fixed address, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

A number of police officers and specialist resources will remain visible at the scene over the next few days as part of our enquiries into this death.
