The Beachhouse at South Milton Sands was "well alight"
A large fire has broken out at a beachfront cafè in South Devon.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue were called to the Beachhouse cafè at South Milton Sands, which is between Hope Cove and Thurlestone at 05:50, this morning [Friday 9 May].
Fire crews from Plympton, Kingsbridge, Salcombe and Modbury have been at the scene all morning and said the building was "well alight" when they arrived.
The business has updated it's website and told customers "they are closed due to a fire" and said "we apologise for any inconvenience caused and an update will be shared soon."
Speaking to the BBC, the owner of the Beachouse, Tamara Costin, said "it's devastating" and "it would have been the start of a busy season" for them.
The cafè posted on Facebook on Thursday 8 May, saying they were shut because of a power cut.
Emergency services say it's currently not known how the fire started.
