Work on ensuring a sinkhole stops appearing on Exmouth Beach has been delayed.
Engineers have discovered a blocked surface water pipe deep under the sand at Orcombe Point, where the two-metre wide hole has opened up three times in six weeks.
Contractors excavating the site have hit rock below the sand, which has stopped them from carrying out repairs, and they can only work at low tide.
They need more time and want to build a structure to keep the water out...but they'll need a licence to build it...and that could take weeks.
